The Lake Volta is the largest artificial reservoir in the world based on surface area. It is contained behind the Akosombo Dam which generates a substantial amount of Ghana's electricity. It is completely in Ghana and has a surface area of 8,502 square kilometers (3,283 square miles ; 2,101,000 acres). It extends from Akosombo in the South to the Northern part. It's primary inflows are the White and Black Volta. It has a minimum depth of 75 meters (246 feet) and an average depth of 18.8 meters (62 feet). It has a water volume of 148 kilometers cube (32.6×1012 gallons with a shore length of 4,800 km and 2,980 miles).
